Bishop slams 25 months of bonus in MWSS
MANILA, Sept. 1, 2010— A Catholic bishop criticized reports that officials of water utility MWSS received P384 million in bonuses and allowances last year.
Sorsogon Bishop Arturo Bastes said the excessive salaries and benefits of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System’s employees is an abuse that must be investigated.
Archdiocese promotes NFP using book

Evangelical bishop backs revival of death penalty
MANILA, August 31, 2010— A bishop of the Philippine Council of Evangelical Churches (PCEC) renewed his support on Senator Miguel Zubiri’s proposal for reimposition of the death penalty in the country.
“We are in favor of death penalty as it is biblical,” PCEC national director Bishop Efraim Tendero said in a statement in the wake of the bloody Manila hostage last Monday.
Bishop calls for justice in Manila hijacking

MANILA, August 30, 2010—An official of a pro-life lobby group has expressed sadness for the loss of lives during the hostage taking drama that led to bloodbath last August 23.
Marita Wasan, Executive Director of Pro-Life Philippines Foundation, Inc. said the group joins the whole country in mourning for those who died and wounded in the incident.
Groups call for removal of endosulfan from Bulacan warehouse
MANILA, August 30, 2010—An alliance of environmental advocates have called for the removal of a hazardous pesticide sitting in a warehouse near Manila.
Around 10 metric tons of endosulfan, a dangerous pesticide, are stockpiled in a private warehouse in Meycauayan, Bulacan, according to environmental groups.
Pro-lifers urge lawmakers to pass bills that promote life

MANILA, August 27, 2010—Jaro Archbishop Angel Lagdameo has called for a massive clean-up drive as he joined the Iloilo City government to wage a concerted effort to combat the spread of dengue.
Lagdameo, in a circular letter, ordered his clergy to mobilize their parishioners for an extensive cleanup drive on September 1 to 2.
Mass to mark 9th day of hostage tragedy
MANILA, August 27, 2010—Government officials and Metro Manila residents will offer a Mass next week for the victims of the bloody hostage drama that killed several Hong Kong tourists.
Archdiocese of Manila’s Parish of Nuestra Senora de Guia based in Ermita district scheduled the Mass at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, the 9th day of the victims’ deaths.
